My beautiful Candy-licious has passed away. The end was mercifully quick. She went downhill for a few weeks, but was still walking twice a day right until the end. She passed away on her favourite mat nuzzled into my side.
You were Miss Personality. Called by many things apart from your real name – including Candy-licious, Candy Grrl, Chicken and Chooky – you were full of spirit and never afraid of a scrap with another dog to protect your pack. You liked to engage with other people on your own terms. If you approached other people, it was safe to pat you; but if a strange person approached you or if you felt crowded, you would give the offending hand a warning nip.
You lived in Roger’s shadow for the first 10 years of your life. When Roger passed away, you were heartbroken. In the following months, you showed us what a wonderful and intelligent dog you were, learning a whole range of new tricks and commands. Who said that you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? You, my girl, were one smart Chooky. I am so glad that we had that one-on-one time together. You became my ever faithful companion and shadow, following me around the house always wanting to know where I was.
Give King Roger our love in heaven. You will be forever in our hearts and minds.
Rest in peace Candy Grrl.
