Maleny Cheese is a good place to visit if you want to buy some great cheese. However, with our young children in tow, we were hoping to also get some information on the cheese-making process. If you are seeking an entertaining/educational experience for your children as well as quality local produce, try Maleny Dairies instead — the dairy farm up the road.
We visited Maleny Cheese on 7 April 2012 — Easter Saturday. Hoping to be able to share with our children how cheese is made, and then sampling some, we requested whether there was some information on their cheese making available. A waitress put on a DVD on a TV above our table. From our table we could see down to the processing area, but on the day that we were there, there was no activity.
The Maleny Cheese cafe was very busy with people, and even a tour group. My wife purchased a few cheeses, which we consumed in the following days and found to be quite tasty.

The tour started with ringing a cow bell to bring in the cows – which happened to be a couple of people dressed in cow suits dancing! Very entertaining for the kids. As part of the tour, a (real) cow was milked in front of the group, and then people taken on a tour of the milk processing facility. People also had the opportunity to hand feed some calves.
At the end of the tour people got to taste a sample of the produce. Well done Maleny Dairies for providing an educational and entertaining tour, as well as great products!
