Dicky Beach area tourism photos

Remains of the SS Dicky shipwreck at sunset

We recently stayed at Dicky Beach Holiday Park on the Sunshine Coast. Following are a few photos of the area and local attractions. My review of Dicky Beach Holiday Park is here. SS Dicky shipwreck Dicky Beach was named after the iron steamboat, the SS Dicky, which ran aground in 1893 in heavy seas. The ship was re-floated, but heavy seas pushed the ship back onto the sand where it remains. BIG4 Kingaroy Holiday Park review

BIG4 Kingaroy Holiday Park

We recently stayed at the BIG4 Kingaroy Holiday Park.  The description on their website is not as we saw it. BIG4 Kingaroy Holiday Park caravan sites The tiny office/”shop” was not air conditioned and was very hot when we visited.  People had to wait quite a while to check-in because they had only one girl on duty and she seemed to take ages to process new arrivals. Driving Duck Creek Road to O’Reilly’s

Duck Creek Road is a great track to try if you are new to four wheel driving, or only have a soft roader or SUV. I recently took the family on a fourmore »

Visit to Kondalilla National Park — photos

Kondalilla National Park is a great place for a walk through the bush, but don’t expect four wheel drive trails in this national park. We had not been planning to visit Kondalilla National Park. Rather, we were driving home from somewhere else and thought the my girls needed to get out for a run. Spotting the sign, we headed down there. We visited on Easter Saturday and the car park was bedlam – fortunately wemore »

Driving Lake Jindabyne to Brisbane

I had been summonsed home. I figured I had had a pretty good time on my Tasmania road trip (follow tag here), so left my overnight stop at Lake Jindabyne intent on getting as far north as possible that day. Once again, rather than detailed planning, I just headed north, following the signs towards Queensland. As I was trying to get home quickly, I did not stop for the customary photographs of everymore »

Driving the Newell Highway — Day 1: Brisbane to Narrabri

The Newell Highway is an easy, but somewhat boring drive. It is the main freight and transport route between Melbourne and Queensland, including Brisbane and north Queensland. I had bought my Toyota Prado only two weeks before I drove the Newell Highway to get to Tasmania for a family holiday. I was to drive down; my wife and young children were flying down. I had four days to meet them in Tasmania, including the ferry tripmore »
