Best head lice and nits prevention for your kids

Nits and head lice are the bane of every parent’s existence if they live in a warm climate and have children in school or child care. We suffered through four summers of head lice infestations before we finally started using tea tree conditioner from Thursday Plantation  to prevent head lice. We now have a five year old daughter in Prep Year (the year before Year 1) at school, and an eight year old daughtermore »

Easy set-up sun and rain awning for your 4WD — gear & photos

A quick-erect sun and rain awning is a very handy addition to any four wheel drive vehicle. Rather than purchasing an of-the-shelf awning, I have developed my own from some surplus gear in my camping kit. There are numerous different awnings available on the market that bolt semi-permanently to roof racks — examples include those available from ARB, TJM, Bushranger, and OZtrail. While I could have easily purchased an off-the-shelf awning, I havemore »

Pottsville North Holiday Park camping trip — review and photos

We recently spent a couple of very enjoyable nights at the Pottsville North Holiday Park. This is a great family spot to stay with a swimming pool and children’s play equipment, but look elsewhere if you want an absolute beach front camp site. We chose the Pottsville North Holiday Park over the Pottsville South Holiday Park because the park has children’s play equipment and a pool. The Pottsville South Holiday Park should still be considered ifmore »

Rhino-Rack Pioneer Alloy Platform Rack System – first photos

The photos in this article are possibly the first photos on the internet of the Rhino-Rack Pioneer Alloy Platform Rack System fitted to a  Toyota Prado 120 series. I could not find any photos on the internet of the roof rack fitted to a  Toyota Prado at the time I was making my purchase decision. The system is made up of the Pioneer Platform (part number 42102) and leg set RLCP03. I had the roof rack suppliedmore »

Sleeping bag care and washing for various brands

Cleaning a sleeping bag may not be as simple as stuffing it in a washing machine and then hanging it out to dry. In fact, you can permanently damage some sleeping bags by doing this. When it was time to purchase a new sleeping bag, I did some online research to find a sleeping bag that could be easily cleaned. When I purchased my first swag — a Burke & Wills Ironbark swagmore »

Coleman Powerhouse 414 dual fuel stove review

My recent purchase of a Coleman Powerhouse 414 dual fuel stove from Great Escape Camping completes the elimination of LPG cylinders from my camping kit. I love the stove, but it does have a couple of quirks. I started my transition to dual fuel gear by purchasing a Coleman Premium 285 dual fuel lantern — my review here. I was very happy with its performance, so decided to purchase the stove and a second lantern. I ammore »

Driving Duck Creek Road to O’Reilly’s

Duck Creek Road is a great track to try if you are new to four wheel driving, or only have a soft roader or SUV. With the drought-breaking rain in recent years, Duck Creek Road has become sufficiently rough to warrant carefully thinking about where you plant your wheels, but not so challenging that you are likely to get stuck or seriously damage your vehicle. I recently took the family on a fourmore »
