Dicky Beach area tourism photos

Remains of the SS Dicky shipwreck at sunset

We recently stayed at Dicky Beach Holiday Park on the Sunshine Coast. Following are a few photos of the area and local attractions. My review of Dicky Beach Holiday Park is here. SS Dicky shipwreck Dicky Beach was named after the iron steamboat, the SS Dicky, which ran aground in 1893 in heavy seas. The ship was re-floated, but heavy seas pushed the ship back onto the sand where it remains. No lives were lostmore »

Riding the Big Red Cat to Stradbroke Island

We took our Toyota Prado, loaded with camping gear, on the Big Red Cat when we recently camped on Stradbroke Island.  There are basically two ways to get your vehicle to Stradbroke Island — or Straddie as the locals call it. You can put your vehicle on Stradbroke Ferries or the Big Red Cat. I chose to use the Big Red Cat mainly because it had an on board cafe. I did not fancy spending an hour with mymore »

Holidaying on Stradbroke Island

And all this only an hour from Brisbane by vehicular ferry. We took my Toyota Prado to Stradbroke Islandmore »

Driving Duck Creek Road to O’Reilly’s

Duck Creek Road is a great track to try if you are new to four wheel driving, or only have a soft roader or SUV. With the drought-breaking rain in recent years, Duck Creek Road has become sufficiently rough to warrant carefully thinking about where you plant your wheels, but not so challenging that you are likely to get stuck or seriously damage your vehicle. I recently took the family on a fourmore »
