Camping gear checklist — revised and updated

I have updated my camping gear checklist to reflect changes in my camping kit as a result of losing a lot of gear in the Queensland 2011 flood, but also changing my preference for gear based on our camping experience. The biggest changes are away from gas stoves/lanterns to Coleman dual fuel appliances, and away from a huge tarp that covers our tent, to a smaller tarp for eating under. I like to packmore »

Coleman two-mantle dual-fuel lantern review

After experiencing the convenience, simplicity and safety of a Coleman dual-fuel lantern, I really do not understand why they are not more popular. The true camping diehards know a good thing though, and you often see dual-fuel gear in their camping kits. I recently purchased a new Coleman two-mantle, dual-fuel lantern off eBay. It appears that there are two versions of what look like the same lantern in online photos. The main obvious visualmore »

Vittoria Rubino Pro cycling tyres (tires)

Vittoria Rubino Pro bicycle tyres have proven to be a reliable riding companion for me over the last 3,000 km. When I took up riding bicycles again after a 20 year break, I purchased a Fuji Absolute 3.0 flat bar road bike (my bike). Riding rollers – it’s not as hard as you think!

Invest in time in the saddle; not more dollars on the bike

Many people think that you have to invest lots of money in a bicycle and gear to be a fast rider. They think that by buying that expensive part that saves them an extra couple of grams that they will suddenly become a much faster rider. While professional cyclists who ride for a living climbing the world’s mountain passes will certainly want the latest, greatest and lightest gear, what about the average fitnessmore »

Bargain cycling sunglasses

Riders looking for a bargain pair of cycling sunglasses should seriously consider Bolle’s range of safety glasses. My important criteria for cycling glasses are: will not shatter on impact lightweight wraps around your eyes, allowing peripheral vision sits high on your face to that you can still look through the top of the glasses when riding do not slip down your nose clear and smoke options for sunrise and daytime respectively. I purchasedmore »

Visiting Harry’s Hut and the Cooloola Recreation Area

In the 10 or so years that my wife and I have been holidaying at Boreen Point and Noosa, Harry’s Hut has always been a destination that has enticed, but eluded, us. Harry’s Hut is in the Everglades at the southern end of the Cooloola Recreation Area, which itself is the southern section of the Great Sandy National Park. Harry’s Hut is accessible either via four wheel drive or by boat. We hadmore »
