PKD Buster II 2m – first flight

I have finally got around to flying my PKD Buster II 2m. I bought the kite second hand off eBay before going on holidays to the beach. I had grand plans of spending some hours flying kites on the sand, but sadly children and visiting relatives got in the way. Yesterday I got the chance to scoot down to my local park to put the Buster II up for an hour. According tomore »

How to configure QoS for VOIP on Netgear FVS338 router

I run a home office and use voice over IP (VOIP) as my business telephone line. I have an Optus cable broadband connection (10Mbps download/256kbps upload) and found that if someone was on a VOIP call and another person was browsing the internet or sending an e-mail, the receiver’s call quality would be distorted. I have three computers and two VOIP phones on the network and was running a Netgear FVS318 router, whichmore »

Accidental purchase: PKD Buster II 2m

I have ‘accidentally’ purchased a yellow PKD Buster II 2m parafoil kite on eBay. Sometimes I place bids on eBay to test the market strength. In this case I placed a bid fully expecting to be outbid and not being particularly concerned about chasing the price. When the auction closed, I found that I had bought myself a kite! Cool!! I bought the yellow PKD Buster II 2m parafoil kite for about $60more »

Carving modification for Phase 1 dropdown longboard

I finally got to ride my Phase 1 dropdown longboard, but in my initial impressions suggested that the skateboard did not carve as well as expected. The board was very stable, but perhaps too stable at the expense of its ability to carve. When I took off the trucks to remove the remaining pieces of plastic that the board was wrapped in, I decided to rotate the riser pads so that the thickmore »

Phase 1 dropdown longboard initial impressions

Christmas has finally come and gone. I can now ride the Phase One (P1) dropdown longboard (specifications and price also listed) that my dog ‘gave’ me for Christmas. I took the longboard for a 9 km ride this morning with my trusty dog running alongside. Initial impressions of the dropdown board were very good. My understanding is that dropdown skateboards were originally designed for downhill speed work. This skateboard, while being relatively cheap, fitsmore »

Speed is relative

I have been having a chat with a reader about the speed of various skateboard wheel/bearing setups below my post on the Phase 1 dropdown longboard. In the meantime I have taken the opportunity to wander around a few stores selling skateboards and spin the boards’ wheels. I have been absolutely staggered how tight the off the shelf board wheels are. Give them a good spin and they barely roll half a turnmore »
