Ouch! — who’s got the video camera?

It was one of those moments where you just wished someone had a video camera handy. Skateboard three days old … careening down a hill … my dog stops running in front of me and I have no option but to go over the top of him, doing a hard landing on the road. Ouch! I would love to see the footage. It was a shame no one was around to watch. Skateboardmore »

What a hoot!

I bought a skateboard from SkaterHQ in Sydney this week. I ordered it over the Internet late Monday evening, and it was delivered on Thursday to Brisbane. That is good service. I rode skateboards when I was a teenager, but just the cheap crappy plastic K Mart ones. I always aspired to own one of the bigger boards. It has only taken me 20 years to do so! The skateboard is a Blingmore »

WindGuru weather forecasting web site

Found the WindGuru (Wind Guru) weather forecasting web site during the week through someone’s post to rec.kites. Pretty amazing technology. Basically, once you have registered (for free) and logged in, you can set custom spots for weather forecasts for any place on earth! I have set a spot down at my local park where I regularly fly kites, and then another spot at a park further away that I sometimes fly at. The twomore »

Dog poo worm farm

Disposing of dog poo can be difficult for suburban dog owners. Over the years we have tried practically everything, from wrapping and putting it in the rubbish bin, to the biological digesters that go in the ground. We have a Hungarian Vizsla and amore »

Kite comparison

I had the chance to get in a few hours flying today in good breezes. This allowed me to test and review a few of my kites back-to-back; something that I normally don’t get to do when I am only out for an hour down at the local park. At one stage I had five sets of lines across the park with the five kites firmly anchored down. According to my old wind gauge, more »

Invento-HQ Ready Sleddy kite

At the Redcliffe Kite Festival last week, I bought an Invento-HQ Ready Sleddy kite for my three-year-old daughter. I promised her that we would take it flying this weekend, which we did. I also took the opportunity to review the kite. The kite flies very well. It is made of ripstop nylon and comes with (by my guess) around 200 foot of line. It is a small kite — the HQ web site says 30″ xmore »

Redcliffe Kite Festival — photos

I took my three-year-old daughter to the Redcliffe Kite Festival today. The festival is hosted by the Redcliffe Kite Club. The big inflatables are not really my thing, but my daughter enjoyed them.
